Dark energy as spacetime curvature induced by quantum vacuum fluctuations
Assuming that the vacuum expectation of the quantum vacuum energy-momentum is zero, I show that fluctuations give rise to a smooth curvature of spacetime. That curvature is currently attributed to a uniform energy-momentum tensor, known as “dark energy”.Our calculation leads to an estimate which roughly agrees with observations. An outstanding open problem in cosmology concerns the nature of “d...
متن کاملDistributional Dominance with Dirty Data
Distributional dominance criteria are commonly applied to draw welfare inferences about comparisons, but conclusions drawn from empirical implementations of dominance criteria may be inßuenced by data contamination. We examine a non-parametric approach to reÞning Lorenz-type comparisons and apply the technique to two important examples from the LIS data-base. ¤
متن کاملSpacetime Foam and Vacuum Energy
The term Spacetime Foam was introduced for the first time by J.A. Wheeler at the end of the fifties to indicate that quantum fluctuations come into play at the Planckian scale, changing topology and metric [1]. Apart the pioneering path integral approach to Spacetime Foam, considered by S.W. Hawking [2], only recently the subject has been widely reconsidered in the context of brane physics [3],...
متن کاملBrans-Dicke Wormholes in Non-Vacuum Spacetime
Analytical wormhole solutions in Brans-Dicke theory in the presence of matter are presented. It is shown that the wormhole throat must not be necessarily threaded with exotic matter. PACS number(s): 04.20Jb, 04.50+h ∗E-mail: [email protected] 1 The field equations of General Relativity, being local in character, admit solutions with nontrivial topology. Among these, wormholes have ...
متن کاملHydrodynamics of spacetime and vacuum viscosity
It has recently been shown that the Einstein equation can be derived by demanding a non-equilibrium entropy balance law dS = δQ/T+ diS hold for all local acceleration horizons through each point in spacetime. The entropy change dS is proportional to the change in horizon area while δQ and T are the energy flux across the horizon and Unruh temperature seen by an accelerating observer just inside...
